Caring for Your Puppy or Kitten
Because puppies and kittens grow so quickly, several exams are needed the first year. The most important thing for a new puppy or kitten, according to our doctors, are early and correct inoculation, and a thorough young animal health exam. Vaccinations are given at 6-8 weeks, 10-12 weeks and 14-16 weeks for the puppy/kitten series. Also at 12 weeks a Feline Leukemia/FIV test is recommended for kittens.

It is very important to keep your puppy/kitten at home and not venture to pet stores or public parks until the entire puppy/kitten series of vaccinations are finished. Dangerous diseases can be contracted from these places by pets that are not fully vaccinated.

Every new puppy and kitten is an important new family member. Our doctors and staff explain training, vaccination and health concerns while presenting each new pet with a complimentary puppy or kitten pack. Veterinary care during the first few months of a puppy or kitten’s life is very important. Embarking on this great adventure opens up your life to unqualified loyalty, love and companionship. At Dunlap Veterinary Clinic your first visits with our staff count. All young pet exams include a full physical and vaccinations appropriate to the pet's age and history.

During your initial visit, you and your pet receive a puppy or kitten pack. This will include:

-Literature on puppy and kitten care
-Crate or potty training guides
-Pamphlet on the threat of heartworm, and a sheet on intestinal worms
-A first free dose of Heartgard heartworm prevention for puppies
-A free 5# bag of Science Diet Puppy or Kitten Food
-A $3.00 coupon for your next bag of Science Diet
-A booklet on puppy or kitten health and development from Science Diet
-And more informational and fun stuff
