It is our mission to provide our clients with service excellence and superior patient care in order to maintain the highest quality of life for their pets.
Onychectomy (declaw) is a procedure in which the small bone that the nail attaches to is removed from the cat's toe. Many owners have this done so that their kitty does not scratch up their furniture etc. If your cat is a strictly outdoor kitty it is recommended that you do not declaw him/her so they can defend themselves from dogs, coyotes etc. At Dunlap Veterinary Clinic, each toe is closed with one small suture and the leg is bandaged overnight. An injection is also given after the procedure for pain management.
Pre-Surgical Preparation:
1. Your pet must be up to date on his/her vaccinations.
2. Do not feed your pet after 10pm the night before surgery.
3. The sutures we use are absorbable and do not need to be removed.
4. If you notice any abnormal swelling or discharge from the feet or any other questions or problems with your pets health please call us right away.
